It’s day two of the #flatschallenge and today’s prompt is “What’s in you stash? How much did it cost?” So, I’m going to breakdown what I’ll be using this week for the challenge. I’m very happy with this little stash! It includes some low cost cotton muslin flats, as well as some more luxurious stretchy bamboo flats.
What’s in my flats stash?
This isn’t my first rodeo. I’ve learned from last year what I liked, and what I’m not crazy about when it comes to handwashing flat diapers. So I’ve built a pretty nice stash!
My Flats
For my stars of the show, I’ve got a few different types.
8 – Cotton Muslin flats (mostly Rearz, a couple Ikea)
6 – Osocozy Bamboo Flats
3 – Imagine Bamboo Stretchy Flats
5 – Flannel Receiving Blankets from my oldest’s baby shower 14 years ago…
Covers
3 – GroVia hybrid shells (hook and loop)
1 – Best Bottom Cover
1 – Bigger Best Bottom Cover
3 – AWJ Funky Fluff Pocket diapers
Accessories
6 – Thirsties cotton cloth wipes
3 – 7″ tall strips of flannel receiving blanket
6 – GroVia cloth wipes
2 – snappi fasteners
2 – Funky Fluff double pocket wetbags

My stash includes both thrifty and luxury options
My guy can be a very heavy wetter so I need boosters for some parts of the day like naps. But handwashing thick hemp boosters is… not fun. So I came up with an idea. I’m using folded cotton wipes as boosters, as well as a cutup receiving blanket that I fold into a small pad-like booster. They wash so easily!
As a print junkie, it was hard to choose between all my pretty covers and find a reasonable amount to use during the challenge. I’m a diaper addict, with a massive stash, and the point is challenge to show diapring can be affordable. Every year this challenge shows me just how ridiculous my full stash size really is.
The two pockets are for stuffing with flats for staying dry overnight, or in case I have a caregiver that needs to change a diaper. My husband doesn’t like flats and covers, but likes flats inside pockets. In fact, pockets and flats are a great diaper solution, you can enter to win two of them in my Elemental Joy giveaway!
How much did it cost?
You can easily do full time cloth diapering with a smaller budget than the cost of this stash that I’m using. 24 cotton muslin flats from Rearz baby would cost about $48.00 and you could pick up some receiving blankets from a consignment shop for even less. Buttons brand cloth diaper covers are incredibly affordable at only $12CDN each, brand new! You could have a full flat stash, with accessories, for $100 or, even less if you’re thrifty and shop second hand. My stash last year was cheaper than this year.
This stash above is a more moderate cost. The GroVia and Best Bottom covers are $22 each and the Funky Fluff pockets are $15 (when bought without inserts). The Imagine Bamboo Stretchy Flats are $26 for a pack of 3 and the Osocozy Bamboo Flats are $27 for a pack of 6. The Rearz muslin flats are very affordable and are less than $2 each if bought in bulk. My entire stash here for the challenge is about $250 Canadian. But almost all of it was bought on sale (15-20% off), and some secondhand, so I paid less than that.
