Before I had kids, I swore I’d limit screen time… but more days than not, good ‘old Netflix is alive and well in our living room. As long as the kids are still getting plenty off couch-free play, and the shows aren’t overly annoying, I’m generally resigned to it. Here are 7 shows on Canadian Netflix that are my nearly-three-year-old’s favourites.
1. Paw Patrol
At this point I’m begging for new seasons because it’s hands down the most requested show in our list. It’s actually not that bad though, and my son EJ’s love of Fire Trucks and Police Cars is satisfied in spades.
2. Dora the Explorer
We are raising our kids to be Spanish Bilingual and Dora is really the only Netflix option that aids that. How I wish they’d add Diego or some fully-Spanish kids shows. My husband does play YouTube episodes of his favourite Mexican kids shows from time to time as well.
3. Bo on the Go
This one is my personal favourite! Bo is very articulate and engaging, and the show encourages physical activity. My son loves to play along.
4. Pororo the Little Penguin
This English dubbed Korean cartoon is actually pretty adorable and EJ loves it. The animation is pretty well done too! My son enjoys all the adventures and I love the message of friendship throughout.
5. Julius Jr.
Another decent show with catchy songs and good storylines. There’s also an App on Android that’s pretty great too, and my son has really mastered his puzzle skills on it.
6. Justin Time
My twelve year old, C, got our toddler into this one. C says it’s the “least annoying little kids show” on Netflix. I catch him watching it on his own often too. 😉
7. Super Why!
Save the best for last! If you haven’t watched it yet- do it. It’s been around a long time and basically helped teach my oldest to read. Years later, my middle son knows rhymes, simple words and all his letter sounds and he’s not even 3 yet.
I’ll have to check to see if these are on U.S. Netflix. So far it’s only been Sesame Street for me. I try to limit it to only one show twice a week though. Sometimes by the middle of the afternoon a break is needed!
