If you have read the popular book The Wonder Weeks then you are already hip to the awesomeness of Predicted Mental Leaps in your baby’s development. But did you know there is a handy app for that too? It is available for Android and Apple devices and you don’t want to wait another minute before downloading. Well, maybe wait a few minutes so you can read my review!
The research behind the Wonder Weeks tells us that your baby will go through 10 Developmental Leaps in their first year and these mental advancements are consistently linked to specific weeks of their life starting from about 5 weeks after your due date. Because your baby is experiencing significant changes in their mental capacities, their behaviour can be very much affected. Leaps will continue from birth until around 18 months past their due date.

This shows a shot of the Leap Calendar Chart, the handy chart that lets you know when to expect the “stormy behavior” that accompanies a Mental Leap in your baby’s development.
Why is my baby suddenly inconsolable?
I can’t express the relief that I found by knowing that my screaming and miserable baby was upset for a reason; he was in a Leap! The app costs about two dollars and is by far the best purchase that I have ever made for a parenting app. By being aware of his leaps, I can better tend to his changing needs and keep my sanity by telling myself “only a few more days.” It helps me to empathize with how he is feeling. Just imagine how it would feel to suddenly have your world drastically change overnight? By understanding about those changes, and their timing, we can sooth and comfort our babies with greater success.

These are the Signs that a baby is in leap 10, which happens around 18 months old (counting from their due date, not birthdate.)
How this App Helps
Put simply, The Wonder Weeks App tells you which signs to watch for, and teaches you all about the abilities and changes that each leap means for your baby. It even includes a handy calendar, and has an alert feature to show you when each leap is due. Of course every baby is different, but for me the calendar was nearly spot on with EJ and I’m excited to see how accurate it is with my Newbie as well, who, at time of writing, is due for his first leap any day now.

You can read about each leap right in the app. They will tell you the signs for each one, and the abilities your baby will have once finishing the leap.
Based on the Award Winning Book
While the app does give you a pretty good summary of each leap, if you are interested in reading the actual book you can do so right from the app. The first few chapters are free and you can purchase the rest. I have read the whole book and I can honestly say, it is worth your time and money. You can also order the book from Amazon. Affiliate Link: The Wonder Weeks
They’ve made a beautiful diary as well, so you can track Al your baby’s milestones and leaps simultaneously. You can grab one on Amazon with my affiliate link: My Wonder Weeks Diary
Overall this app is the one that I recommend most to my new mom friends. Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think!
