Funky Fluff LUX Pocket cloth diapers in “Maritime” and “Yellow Submarine”
Yay! I’m very excited to be finally trying out our new Funky Fluff LUX diapers! I bought 3 stay dry shells and one bamboo system in the new LUX line from Lagoon Baby. I also bought a pack of deLUX inserts and some Hemp Boosters.
Pictured above, on the left, is my 13 month old, who is petite at 18 lbs, wearing a One-Size Stay Dry LUX shell in the Maritime print, and inside is one small LUX bamboo insert with one hemp booster. Overall it’s very trim.

- PUL reinforced snaps create a double layer of PUL on the front of the diaper shell for extra protection
First Impressions
The shells are incredibly soft, more so than the 2.0. I love how the inside panel is now backed with PUL, as my son is a tummy sleeper and this will deter leaks.
One thing I’ve noticed is that the cut is slightly wider on the wings compared to the Funky Fluff 2.0. You can see this illustrated above in the bottom right image. That’s a 2.0 shell on top of the new LUX stay dry. I believe the wing is now thicker because the LUX’s crotch area width was increased by 1cm to accommodate easier stuffing.
My only issue with this is that, in the stay dry, the top of his chubby thigh is quite pinched now. I’ve had to loosen the waist to allow for this, and that caused a gap at his belly so I’ve tightened to upper row of snaps to compensate. For moms who like their snaps even, this could be a negative. But it hasn’t deterred me personally. This is not an issue with the bamboo. If your babe has very chunky thighs, staying away from the stay dry in favour of the much more flexible Bamboo shells might be a good idea.
Absorbency
The Large LUX Bamboo Terry soakers are 6 layers of material, and the small soakers are 5 layers. They are contoured. You can snap the two together before snapping into the shell, which is great. With both being used- the absorbency is fantastic. Car-ride worthy and nap proof. They are a touch bulky together, however.
The deLUX soakers are two inserts in one- a top section consisting of
We change every two hours (sometimes 2.5) during the day. The very trim combination of the small bamboo LUX insert with one Hemp Booster was superb. In fact, I probably could have done fine without the booster! My guy is a moderate to heavy wetter (especially the first half of the day when he drinks the most) and this held up perfectly. I have to say, I ADORE the new contoured shape of the LUX inserts. They give a nice evening coverage and do not bunch like the old inserts can sometimes do.
Overnight
I’ll be using the Funky Fluff deLUX inserts inside for overnight, as they are designed to be much more absorbent than the LUX.
I will update my overnight impressions tomorrow. I already have the Yellow Submarine LUX stay dry shell prepped and stuffed with two deLUX (aka “hempboo”) inserts (large and small) and can’t wait to see how they hold up to my 12 hour tummy sleeper! It’s definitely trim so i’m skeptical. You can see it stuffed in the top right pic.
The deLUX inserts are two soakers stitched together. On top you have the Bamboo soaker layers, soft and silky. Then on the bottom, the attached Hemp soaker layers. Two center lines of stitching hold the two sections together, so that the sides can fan out to allow for deeper cleaning and quicker drying.
They come in two sizes, a large and small, and just like the LUX you can snap them together before snapping them into the shell.
UPDATE:
We woke up leak free 12.5 hours after putting on our Yellow Submarine Stay Dry LUX shell with both deLUX (“hempboo”) inserts!! I’m completely amazed. These inserts aren’t even at full absorbency yet! I’ll be buying more, absolutely.
