I’ve had the opportunity to put this diaper through its paces, in both newborn and one size. This natural fibre all-in-one cloth diaper has become one of the most reached-for in my stash, and this review will explain why.
I purchased these diapers from Lagoonbaby.com for my own personal use. These opinions are all my own, but I do include affiliate links in my reviews.
What’s it Made of?
Moving away from the microfibre elements of the previous Thirsties All-in-one, the new Natural All in One (also knows as NAIO) has opted for cotton and hemp. This change has increased absorbency dramatically.
- Outer layer is 100% Polyester with Waterproof TPU Laminate.
- Inner lining is 100% organic cotton
- Attached inserts are 45% hemp and 55% organic cotton
If you are curious about the TPU listed here versus the PUL you might be used to hearing about, check out this post by Zephyr Hill. I did some digging and learned that TPU is a slightly different, and more environmentally friendly, method of laminating fabric.
The Thirsties One Size NAIO has 2 attached inserts of 3 layers each, giving a total of 6 layers of the famous USA-made Hemp/Cotton Jersey fabric. It’s very soft and trim. There is plenty of room inside this all-in-one diaper to add boosters when needed. The inserts are attached at one end, and are sewn in a way as to leave an opening in each one- to promote effective cleaning and drying. The openings aren’t large enough to stuff, if that’s what you were thinking.

The underside of the inserts are left open for better cleaning and faster drying
The diaper is fully lined with two layers of 100% organic cotton, which keeps baby’s skin away from the TPU and allows for additional full-coverage absorbency. There is no stay-dry element to this design, but the nature of the hemp blend does keep some wetness away from baby.

A 3 by 3 snaps rise offers three different size settings
Sizing and Fit
The 3×3 rise offers 3 size options, two rows snapped for small and medium and then left unsnapped for large. It fits my little guy well on the smallest rise- he is currently 6 months old and about 15lbs. There are two rows of waist snaps, which I love, as it allows you to adjust the waist and thighs independently. This Thirsties Natural AIO cloth diaper is also available in Hook and Loop closure.
Just for fun, I tried the one size on my potty trained toddler (30lbs) and it fits him fine. He immediately removed it and complained to me that he didn’t wear diapers anymore, so no pictures. At any rate, I’m confident this one size will last us until potty.
Absorbency Power
It’s no secret that I have a heavy wetter but this diaper works well for him. We use this diaper at naptime, in the car, in the exersaucer, pretty much anywhere you’d expect a cloth diaper to be truly tested. This one stands up to everything all on its own. We have not had any wicking or compression leaks due to the “wetness locking” nature of the hemp.
It even lasts overnight for us, with one large Thirsties hemp insert added underneath the attached inserts. This makes it our trimmest nighttime solution yet. I do prefer to add one stay dry layer at night though, which does put a bit more bulk.
All our exclusively-breastfed, runny, poop-splosions have been entirely contained with zero issue. The encased leg elastics do their job well, but if you were hoping for Thirsties famous double gussets- they’re not on this one.
Newborn Size

The newborn size is smaller than the one size and fits birth to 14lbs
This diaper comes in 2 sizes, Newborn and One Size. The newborn size was actually the first diaper my son ever wore and we put it on right at birth. There are two sizes offered by the 2×2 rise snaps and one row of waist snaps. The umbilical snapdown is also a great feature and it came in handy. The same two attached soakers (3 layers each) and two layer cotton lining exists on the newborn size.
We outgrew the Newborn absorbency and were ready for One Size at about 2.5-3 months old. My son was 7 lbs 8 oz at birth so if he had been born smaller, we would have had much more use out of this diaper. It is listed by the manufacturer as being for 5-14lbs or 0-3 months, and that was pretty accurate for us.
I’m happy with the design overall and would definitley recommend it for the newborn stage if you are looking for a natural, all in one option. It was definitley my favourite diaper that I always reached for first, and I wish I had bought more. The price was a reasonable $21.95. Final Thoughts
This diaper is one of my favourites. It won me over to the idea of all-in-ones when I wasn’t so sure about them. My concerns about all-in-one diapers not getting clean enough, or taking too long to dry, have all been alleviated with this diaper. I recommend it often to moms looking for an all-round, effective cloth diapering solution for their babies.
What We love:
- Hemp is super absorbent for us
- Double row waist snaps on the one size for a great fit
- Umbilical snapdown on newborn size is a must-have feature
- Attached “air flow” inserts make it easy to dry in one cycle
- Made in USA from high quality materials
- An endless selection of gorgeous colours and prints
- The brand has an active community of users and the company that is great with communication/support and listening to fans
What we love less:
- No hip snaps, but it still fits well
- Doesn’t have the typical double gusset that we have come to love from our other Thirsties products.
- Would love a crossover waist snap to keep soiled diapers closed

these look awesome !! i’ve bought some to try on next baby, this makes me glad i did.
I love the 2 Thirsties NAIO diapers my grandson has. Those new prints from the Adventure series are some of my favorites. and the natural fibers help him go without leaks. But I don’t know how long it will last him, because he always seems to poop in it right after we put them on him. I guess they are his favorites too!
