By now you’ve probably already gasped in horror at the video of two Utah toddler twins and a falling dresser on your Facebook feed. The video, released by their parents, went viral on social media this week and shows one toddler trapped under the dresser. His brother comes to his rescue, pushing it off of him. Both boys were miraculously unscathed.
Here is the video if you haven’t seen it yet, which shows the full scenario including the falling dresser and the daring rescue.
In true internet fashion, speculations of staging and white hot criticism of the absent parents are rampant amongst genuine comments of concern.
Whether real or fake, though, this video serves to remind us all to properly secure heavy furniture to the wall.
If you haven’t done so already, secure your children’s bedroom and playroom furniture and any other heavy pieces in the house. This is a great new years project!
Ikea offers free kits to secure any of their products, and as well the company is committed to furniture safety by making the refund and return processes easy for items that have been recalled as safety risks.
If your furniture isn’t from Ikea, no worries. Amazon has many universal kits including Mommy’s Helper Tip-Resistant Furniture Safety Brackets (affiliate link).
I personally have just ordered a bunch to get our own furniture secure. I’m sad to say we have never done it!
Here’s wishing all our children a safe and sound 2017!
